The University of Garoua, recently created in Cameroon, will benefit from USF’s support for its international opening
On April 15, a meeting was held in Lyon, France, with four representatives of the University of Garoua, Cameroon, including its rector, to finalize a cooperation agreement with Universitaires sans Frontières.
The University of Garoua was created in 2022 from a number of new establishments and a number of establishments integrating branches of existing universities. In all, five faculties and three superior schools make up the university. It currently has 10,000 students.
Priorities
Two cooperation priorities have been defined:
- An Erasmus project within a local consortium of three universities that have not yet received Erasmus-type support. The aim is to develop English-language courses at bachelor’s and master’s level, in conjunction with European universities for student stays. USF has expertise in this field and offers to support the application by helping to identify European partners and draw up a sales pitch highlighting the originality and importance of the request for development.
- The university has set itself the goal of professionalizing its training, and is seeking to establish concrete links with the world of work and civil society to facilitate entrepreneurship. USF presented the AFRICAIN project (Associer Formation Recherche et Innovation en Cycles d’Activation de l’Intelligence Numérique – Combining Training, Research and Innovation in Cycles for the Activation of Digital Intelligence), which has been lobbied to the French Development Agency (AFD) and studied for the Innovation and Development Fund.
The partnership agreement
The partnership agreement, already shared, was discussed in terms of reciprocity to ensure the success of joint projects.
Participants agreed on the following wording: “The stakeholders undertake to mobilize, within the limits of their respective means, the resources necessary for the development of projects carried out in a cooperative manner. The terms of reciprocity will be specified for each cooperative project between the stakeholders.”
The agreement was signed by representatives of the University of Garoua and USF. It will be finalized after validation by the Board of the University of Garoua.
The agreement will be coordinated by Professor Alain Mille, USF Treasurer.
Dr. Hamadou Sanoussi, Université Lyon 3, USF Secretary
